23B VASA Tank & IBC Cleaner Case Study 1

PIP Chemicals, an automotive chemicals company located in Northern Ireland and an existing 23B client, recently expanded their operation significantly by taking on an additional chemical production and storage facility. With that expansion they sought to implement and improve the various chemical production processes in order to improve output, quality, safety and stock control. One of those processes was the cleaning of the various sizes and shapes of vessels and tanks which the company owned, including IBCs, 200 litre barrels and their own custom stainless steel mixing tanks. PIP Chemicals decided that the 23B VASA Tank & IBC Cleaner would be best suited to their needs.

PIP Chemicals did not have any specific equipment for cleaning these tanks, previously using a mains water line and hose to rinse down after use, with the materials in the tanks ranging from surfactants to silicones. This mix of materials combined with the lack of cleaning equipment meant that tanks could only be used for certain materials, and nothing else. This greatly increased the number of tanks PIP Chemicals had to hold. In addition, the manual cleaning process took an extremely long time, as well as there being uncertainty over the standards of cleaning due to the awkward shape of some of the tanks.

23B VASA Tank & IBC Cleaner Build Process:

The 23B Process – VASA Tank & IBC Cleaner

23B carried out an on-site test with various soiled tanks to determine what equipment would be needed. Due to the huge range of physical and chemical properties the products in the tanks presented, a high-flow, medium pressure setup was decided upon as the best option to cover all bases.

23B then proceeded to design a bespoke tank cleaning system for the client. Using a four nozzle rotary cleaning head for IBCs and large tanks, and a smaller two-nozzle cleaning head for 25 litre drums to 200 litre barrels, the 23B VASA Tank & IBC Cleaner cleans soiled containers in as little as 3 minutes. The machine has three different cleaning programmes where the user can input a desired cleaning time, in which the machine will shut off after the cycle has stopped. A chemical dosing pump allows the client to inject defoaming products into the wash cycle, and an onboard drain pump allows suction draining of tanks where required. A 20 metre hose reel with a separate wash gun also enables external cleaning of tanks.

The client now has a repeatable, safe and automated tank cleaning process. The 23B VASA keeps labour times, energy consumption and water use to a minimum whilst increasing overall production and reducing the tank stock required.
