A local food production company contacted us with queries on how to improve their washdown equipment and post-shift cleaning process. They had a centralised high pressure pump routed to several different user points throughout the facility, but only had a single hose and lance set. They also had a separate chemical sprayer, which the operator had to drag from room to room every day. This was causing high equipment wear and potential cross-contamination issues between food processing rooms, as well as taking up a lot of time.
23B worked with the customer to discuss different options as to how they could improve this process. Together, we decided that installing stainless steel retractable hose reels with in-line foaming injectors and dual function wash lances in each of the four food processing rooms would greatly improve the process. Hand-held and push-along surface cleaners were also provided. All components were stainless steel and compatible with the existing equipment and pipe network.
Washdown Equipment Improvements:
The improvements to the customer’s cleaning process as a result were as follows:
- Significantly reduced cleaning time, as all washdown components were localised to each production room
- Reduced component wear
- More efficient use of cleaning chemicals with improved foaming by using localised injectors
- Easier hose management due to the retractable hose reel and gun inlet swivels to prevent tangling
Being a food production facility where hygiene is paramount, installation work was carried out over a weekend. This also ensured that the customer did not suffer any downtime.
